Academic & Technical

The CTE Emergency Dispatcher suite of courses provide the relevant technical expertise and academic knowledge required for entry into the field of emergency communications. Students will develop the necessary skills required to work in this unique and well regarded industry. Students that successfully complete the course will be awarded a 911 Communications Officer certification, which is highly regarded within law enforcement, fire and emergency services.

Furthermore, students will gain the essential knowledge, skills, and experience to understand and function within an emergency communications system, and their role and responsibilities within that system.

Interpersonal

Generally, interpersonal skills are loosely defined as intangible personal traits that when utilized effectively, assist the individual in successfully securing and promoting in their occupation of choice.

CTE Emergency Dispatcher courses offer a comprehensive and structured model for developing the basic interpersonal skillsets required in the emergency dispatcher field. Some basic interpersonal skills include: effective communications, problem solving, teamwork and leadership.

Students participate in various strategic development exercises where the goal is to identify and refine interpersonal skill concepts in greater depth and to apply learned concepts in 'real-world' environments.

CTE Emergency Dispatcher is a certification program. Secondary and Post-Secondary education students that complete course milestones and pass certification testing are awarded a 911 Communication Officer certificate.
