CERTIFICATION

CTE Emergency Dispatcher utilizes the certification services of National Emergency Communications Institute.

Your CTE educator assumes the responsibility of overseeing certification testing.

Certification meets APCO, NENA and NFPA industry testing and training standards.

Certification demonstrates to prospective employers that the student is prepared to enter the workforce.

Certification is just one component in the CTE Emergency Dispatcher suite of courses, but carries great weight in demonstrating to potential employers that the student has achieved a basic level of technical skill and occupational knowledge. As a result, students will enter the workforce with confidence knowing that they have received extensive real-world training.

Industry Training Standards

Certification is administered through National Emergency Communications Institute (NECI). NECI's 911 Communication Officer certificate testing aligns to Associated Public-Safety Communications Officers (APCO) ANSI National Public Safety 9-1-1 Training Standard, National Emergency Number Association (NENA), NENA 56-004 – TTY/TDD Call Handling Standard, NENA 56-005 - NENA Call Answering Standard and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) NFPA - 1061.

In addition, law enforcement, fire and emergency service agencies recognize APCO, NENA and NFPA training standards as the foremost authorities in emergency communications training standards and professionalism.

With NECI certification students gain a tremendous advantage over their counterparts in securing meaningful employment during the pre-hire process. Student's will be able to demonstrate both orally and in writing their broad depth of knowledge and understanding of technical aspects unique to emergency dispatching.

CTE and 911 Instructor Course

Prior to teaching and leading the CTE Emergency Dispatcher coursework, CTE instructors are required to become 911 Instructor certified. 911 Instructor certification is a valuable achievement and is recognized nationally by NECI training authority.

MindFLEX Education has entered into a working relationship with NECI to help facilitate the instructor certification process. The purpose of the instructor course is to provide the 911 instructor candidate with the knowledge and skills necessary to certify others with a NECI 911 Communication Officer certification. Once the instructor candidate completes the required coursework they are able to certify students participating in CTE Emergency Dispatching courses.

I dispatched for three years, before becoming a police officer. Dispatching will give you a leg up if you do become a police officer. Radio ear, radio etiquette, running NCIC, warrants, driving status, etc. It also helped with how to deal with people using only verbal communication. - LAPD Officer
